Claudia Sheinbaum Expands University Enrollment in Mexico City

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that 30,000 new places will be opened at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) as part of a program to increase enrollment in public universities and provide more study options for young people interested in pursuing a professional career. Additionally, a dialogue will be initiated with other educational institutions such as UNAM to assess their capacity for expansion and academic offerings.

Among the new developments, it was announced that the Rosario Castellanos University, founded during Sheinbaum's term as head of Government, will expand to other states with two new campuses in Comitán, Chiapas and Tijuana, Baja California. The creation of more universities in the Welfare Poles is expected as part of an investment strategy in the country.

A total of 30 new campuses are projected with 150,000 available spaces, with academic programs aligned to the needs of young people and growth opportunities in each region. The new campuses will focus on careers that meet local and national demand.

The Rosario Castellanos University will open its applications in November for students and teachers, starting the enrollment process in December and January, intending to begin classes in March 2025. Other public universities that will increase their enrollment and number of campuses in the coming years include the Health University, which will open 10 new campuses with 25,000 spaces, and the Benito Juárez University for the Wellbeing, which will have 50 new campuses and 40,000 available places.

Claudia Sheinbaum aims to increase enrollment in public schools, including UNAM, and promote a dialogue with various autonomous institutions to assess their expansion capacities and resource needs for education.
